Mystery/Crime Free Write with Dennis Lawson

What is a free write?

There are few rules or constraints when it comes to “free writes,” and approaches will vary with each facilitator. The main goal of a “free write” is to explore a topic or idea through prompts (visual or written). Participants write in the moment, without planning or forethought, with the hope of unearthing new material, new perspective.

Free writes are open to anyone. No writing experience is needed. They are usually informal and meant to be fun and generative. Fall Free Writes will be held during the Museum’s “free admission hours,” which occur Thursday evenings, 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The best thing about free writes is that they are free! Sign ups are encouraged, but not required. Visit for registration information.
