Topic: Critique Night

The August Wilmington Writers Group meeting is Critique Night! Get constructive feedback on your current writing projects by other members of the group.

You don’t have to bring anything to the group if you don’t wish to do so. You can participate by offering feedback on those who do bring pieces for critique and are welcomed to do so. You will also learn a lot just from the critique of other people’s work.

Critique offers honest, constructive feedback for authors. If you do wish to have a piece critiqued, please follow these guidelines:
• Bring a piece or excerpt approximately 5 pages long.
• Please bring eight copies, double spaced and typed.
• Place the title and the page number on each page.
We need to break into smaller groups to ensure that all pieces get a reasonable amount of time for reading and reviewing. The number of groups is dependent on the number of authors who bring pieces for critique

About Wilmington Writers Group

YOUR FIRST MEETING IS $10 AND A TRIAL TO SEE IF YOU FIND IT A FIT! If you do opt to attend after the sample meeting, we expect you to join as a paying member for an annual dues of $48. If you pay that evening, you’ll get credit for the $10 meeting fee for the evening toward your annual dues.

Welcome to the Wilmington Writers Group. We offer a safe and supportive place for writers of all genres and experience levels to better their craft and make new friends.

Every second Monday of the month, writers from the group gather together to learn something writing-related and gather with like minds. Our meetings are held in a private room at McKenzie’s Brew Pub just north of Wilmington. We get between 12 and 24 people at each meeting.

We hold monthly meetings, with alternating programming.

On an every-other month schedule, we will offer programs featuring guest speakers who present on a variety of topics. Planned presentations include comedy in writing, script-writing, a self-publishing panel, on-line writing communities and many others.

During the intervening months, we offer writer critiques. Attendees are welcomed to bring eight to ten copies of a complete story or an excerpt that is approximately 5 pages in length, double spaced. Some writers come with a piece to be critiqued and critique others; some attend to perform the critique only. There’s a lot to be learned from the process, even if you don’t bring a piece with you. You don’t need to submit your piece in advance; just bring it with you to the group that evening.

Come to whatever meetings interest you. You don’t have to commit to coming to all of the programs and critiques. Attend the ones that interest you the most. But we promise to make EVERY meeting the best time you will spend that month on yourself and your craft.

See our schedule on MeetUp. Meetup is a free service that acts as our front end for meeting scheduling. Join the online service FREE. You can RSVP and see the scheduled dates and programs for upcoming months.
